Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas

The Mandarin Oriental is a true oasis of serenity in the middle of the frenetic Las Vegas strip. When you’ve had your fill of casinos, crowds of people and waiting lines you’ll be delighted to return to this non-gaming property, a 5-star resort.

The Mandarin is located about 15 minutes from the McCarran International Airport (LAS) by car/taxi and at an easy walking distance from all the retail and entertainment options. The designer boutiques of Crystal's shopping mall are next door, as well as the casino resorts Aria and the Cosmopolitan, where you can gamble to your heart’s content.

This property is a boutique hotel with only 392 rooms (which really isn’t a lot in comparison to most hotels in Vegas that literally have thousands of rooms and people) and is only one of two hotels that has received the Forbes Five-Star rating. The Mandarin offers a much more intimate experience, where you can dive or take a sunbath in a secluded pool area and relax in an award-winning spa.

Check-in doesn't follow the crowd either. You must take an elevator (made of black marble, gold accents and with a plush red velvet bench) up to the 23rd floor to find the lobby, very elegantly designed with rich wood tones and presenting one of the nicest views of the strip you will see from its floor-to-ceiling windows.

There’s a tea lounge located to the right of check-in, and the French restaurant Twist by Pierre Gagnaire is also located on this floor. There's even a Moet and Chandon vending machine in the lobby next to the elevators. Just request a gold token from the front desk to claim your 1 glass, $25 USD serving.

The service is impeccable and very reflective of the Asian culture and their hospitality principle.

The guest rooms are located between floors 4-22 while the condos/residences are on 24-47. I stayed in a King Strip View suite at floor 20.

Upon entering the room, you find a large walk-in closet. There’s a valet closet section which is a nice touch where it can be opened from the outside. If you want shoes shined you can just put them in the valet closet so the staff can grab them without knocking on your door. The wardrobe was complete with the usual fare, including a luscious cotton robe, slippers and a yoga mat.

A touchscreen panel controls every moving part. Lighting, drapes, music and more, could all be controlled by the TV, or by the bedside. There were also plenty of different plug-ins that were easily accessible for all of your gadgets.

The large marble bathroom with an oval soaking tub, separate shower and double vanity, really invites  you to an evening soak after a long Vegas day.

Don't miss the spa's Tian Quan Thermal Experience, an all-day escape combining personal experience showers, a vitality pool, heated lounges, an ice fountain, an aromatherapy steam room, and a view overlooking the entire Strip.

Although the Mandarin brand is sheer luxury and usually a little higher price-point than some other hotels, don’t be convinced that this property is out of your price range. The market in Las Vegas is very competitive due to the amount of hotel rooms available in the city and the Mandarin (or any other luxury property here) has to be competitively priced in order to compete with the casino hotels. Rates include WiFi, complimentary coffee from 6-8am, a salon-grade hair straightener in the room, bottled water by the pool, gym access, yoga and Pilates classes.

There is one sure bet in Vegas, and that is that you won’t be disappointed with your stay at The Mandarin Oriental.
